I stumbled across these stairs on a run maybe six months ago, and completely forgot about them until I was going through pictures I had taken on my iPod a few months back. I was so excited when I saw these quick shots I had taken, and knew that I had to find this staircase again. I finally did, and was able to take more pictures to try to capture what a great, subtle surprise this pocket of our neighborhood has. It's places like this that remind me how unexpectedly beautiful life can be, if you have the patience and desire to find it.

Trees in the City
I love trees. I hope, in my next lifetime, I'm lucky enough to be a tree. It's a beautiful way to live, in my mind - to grow slowly, strongly, and surely, in nearly any type of environment - to adapt to wherever you are, and to see your world change around you, day in and day out. To not have any expectations to live up to, to simply be. I used to take a lot of pictures of trees in the country, and I haven't focused my camera too much on city trees, but they're always in the back of my mind. So I figured I should at least take some time to photograph some trees in the city - because they're subtly and strongly living all around us, and it's pretty easy forget to appreciate their existence.

Beauty is in the Eye of the Unknown
I've spent a lot of time and energy trying to show people the beauty in things they already have a preconceived notion of. Still spending a lot of time and energy doing it, so I'd like to think that I'm slowly but surely learning how to trick the viewer into looking at something before they actually know what they're looking at.
